Scrubber

A device that captures solid or liquid particles suspended in gas or unwanted or harmful gaseous components contained in gas. Usually, water is used as the cleaning liquid, but liquids other than water or liquids with surfactants added can also be used. When cleaning and capturing solid or liquid particles, the device is a type of dust collector and is called a scrubbing dust collector. The particles are captured by droplets or liquid films. There are various types of scrubbers, such as jet scrubbers that spray high-pressure water, cyclone scrubbers with many spray nozzles inside the cyclone, Peabody scrubbers with a tray tower, Theisen washer that introduces dust-laden gas and liquid to the center of the rotating blades, and cyclone scrubbers with a Venturi tube built into the cyclone. Spray towers and packed towers are also used.

気体中に浮遊する固体または液体の微粒子や気体中に含有されている気体状の不要成分または有害成分を液中に捕捉（ほそく）する装置。通常，洗浄液には水が用いられるが，水以外の液体または水に界面活性剤などを添加した液も用いられる。固体または液体の微粒子を洗浄捕捉する場合，装置は一種の集塵装置で，洗浄集塵装置とよばれる。微粒子は液滴または液膜により捕捉される。高圧水を噴射するジェット･スクラッバー，サイクロン内部に多数の噴霧ノズルを設けたサイクロン･スクラッバー，棚段塔形式のピーボディ･スクラッバー，回転羽根の中心に含塵気体と液体とを導くタイゼン･ワッシャー，サイクロン内部にベンチュリ管を組み込んだサイクロン･スクラッバーなど各種の型式のものがあり，ほかに，噴霧塔(スプレー塔)，充てん塔も使われる。
