Japanese: スキョル朝 - スキョルちょう（英語表記）Skjoldung

A dynasty (one of the small tribal kingdoms) whose ancestor was the legendary hero Skill, who lived in Skone, the homeland of the Danes, in southern Scandinavia. Skill and his descendants are mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf (c. 8th century) and in the Icelandic sagas. It is said that they extended their influence to the Jutland Peninsula and Sweden from the 5th century onwards, and later Danish kings whose existence is confirmed were named after the Skill dynasty.

スカンジナビア半島南部，デンマーク人の故地スコネに出た伝説上の英雄スキョルを祖とする王朝 (小部族諸王国の一つ) 。スキョルとその子孫についてはアングロ・サクソンの叙事詩『ベーオウルフ』 (8世紀頃) やアイスランドの「サガ」に述べられている。5世紀以後ユトラント (ユラン) 半島やスウェーデンにも勢力を及ぼしたと伝えられ，実在が確実なのちのデンマーク王たちはスキョル朝を名のっている。
