A medieval and early modern samurai family from Shimotsuke. It is said that the family began when Taira no Yoshihira's great-grandson Iesuke lived in Yanada County, Shimotsuke Province, and his grandson Ujisuke took the name Yanada Kaneyusaemonnojo. They were low-ranking vassals of the Ashikaga clan, and after the establishment of the Muromachi shogunate, they served the Kamakura kubo for generations, and Mitsusuke's daughter gave birth to Nariuji, the son of the fourth Kamakura kubo, Ashikaga Mochiuji. Mochiuji was annihilated in the Eikyō Rebellion (1438), but in 1449 (the first year of Hōtoku), Nariuji was welcomed into the Kamakura kubo, and the Yanada clan served him again. When Nariuji moved to Koga in Katsushika County, Shimousa Province (Koga kubo) in conflict with the Kanto kanrei Uesugi clan and the shogunate, Mitsusuke's son Mochisuke supported Nariuji from Sekiyado Castle in the same county.
