A town in Nishiokitama County in the southwest of Yamagata Prefecture. The northern part is part of the Nagai Basin, through which the Yonezaka Line runs. The Shirakawa and Nogawa rivers are paddy fields. The Nakatsugawa area to the south is the broadleaf forest area of Mt. Iide. The town produces rice and beef cattle.
