A landform mountain range sandwiched between the Agano River and the Arakawa River on the border of Yamagata, Fukushima, and Niigata prefectures. It is also called the Iide Mountain Range. It is mainly made of granite, and some parts are made of Paleozoic and Tertiary strata. The range is made up of a constant height of around 2000m mountains, including the main peak Mt. Iide (2105m) and the highest peak Mt. Dainichi (2128m), and is the highest non-volcanic mountain in the Tohoku region. Bears, serows, and monkeys live there, alpine plants grow on the summit, and many areas are unexplored. It is said that Chimichi opened the range during the Hakuho period, Kukai in the 9th century, and Nankai and others in the 11th century. The Iide Shrine Gosha Gongen is enshrined on the summit of Mt. Iide. It belongs to Bandai-Asahi National Park, and there are hiking trails from the towns of Oguni, Nishiaizu, and Yamato (now Kitakata City). → Related topics Iide [town] | Echigo Mountains | Kitakata [city] | Shibata [city] | Japan's 100 famous mountains | Yamagata [prefecture] | Yonesaka Line Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
