Japanese: 水路づけ - すいろづけ（英語表記）canalization

A psychological term. It refers to the process by which a certain behavioral pattern becomes limited to a narrow range. In the narrow sense, it refers to a preference for one of several means to satisfy a particular desire or drive. For example, although appetite can be satisfied by rice, bread, and various other foods, it refers to the process by which a certain food comes to be particularly preferred. Channelization, once formed, has the characteristic that its effect remains and is more difficult to eliminate than conditioning.

心理学用語。ある種の行動パターンが狭い範囲に限定されていく過程をいう。狭義には，特定の欲求または動因を満足させるいくつかの手段のうちから1つが偏好されること。たとえば，食欲は米でもパンでもその他いろいろな食物で満足されるが，ある種の食物を特に好むようになる過程をさす。水路づけはいったん形成されると，その効果は残存し，条件づけに比べて消去されにくいという特徴がある。
