Year of death: 14 March 1624 (1624.5.1) Year of birth: 1560 Lord of Kakegawa, Totomi and Kuwana, Ise in the early Edo period. Half-brother of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Lord of Oki. Born as the fourth son of a small feudal lord in Owari, Hisamatsu Toshikatsu, in Akoi Castle, Chita County, Owari (Usaka, Agui-cho, Aichi Prefecture). His mother was Ieyasu's birth mother, Mizuno, and later married Toshikatsu, so Ieyasu bestowed the surname Matsudaira on him. He served Ieyasu, and in 1601 he was given a fief of 30,000 koku in Kakegawa, in 1619 he became the castellan of Fushimi Castle with a fief of 50,000 koku, and in 1620 he guarded Fushimi Castle during the Winter Siege of Osaka, and Nijo Castle during the Summer Siege the following year. In 1617 he was given a fief of 110,000 koku in Kuwana, and in 1623 he was given a fief of 117,000 koku in 1624.
