Iai - Iai
〘Noun〙① The technique of quickly drawing the sword while kneeling and slashing at the enemy. It is said to have been created by Hayashizaki Shigenobu during the Genki and Tensho eras ( 1570-1592 ) in the Sengoku period. In the early modern period, it also came to mean the technique of drawing a long sword with determination. In modern times, it also includes the technique of quickly drawing the sword and slashing while standing. Iai-nuki.
