Great Hall of the People

Japanese: 人民大会堂 - じんみんだいかいどう

This is the assembly hall of China's People's Congress. It is located on the west side of Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Along with Tiananmen Square, the China Museum of History, the National Cultural Palace, and Beijing Station (Main Station), it is one of the most representative public buildings built in New China in the 10 years after liberation. It was completed at the end of August 1959 based on plans submitted by design departments and architects from around the country, mainly in Beijing. The building has an area of 171,800 m2 and a mountain-shaped plan. Behind the large central hall is an open-ceilinged People's Congress hall with a width of 76 m and a depth of 60 m, and can accommodate 14,000 people.

中国の人民代表大会の議場。北京市の天安門広場の西側にある。天安門広場，中国歴史博物館，民族文化宮，北京站(中央駅)などとともに，解放後10年間の新中国による公共建築を代表するもの。北京を中心とする全国各地の設計部局，建築家たちが提出した設計案をもとに1959年8月末に完成。建築面積は17万1800m2，平面は山字形をなし，中央の大ホールの後方に吹抜けで，間口76m，奥行き60mの広さをもつ人民代表大会の議場があり，1万4000人を収容できる。
