A Greek philosopher active around 530. He studied under Ammonius and Damascius and embraced Neoplatonism. After the closure of the Academy in Athens by Emperor Justinian (529), he traveled to Persia with Damascius and other Neoplatonists. After returning to Athens in 533, he wrote excellent commentaries on Aristotle's On the Categories, Physics, On the Heavens, and On the Soul, comparing Plato and Aristotle. His commentary on Physics in particular is a valuable resource, as it includes fragmentary descriptions of pre-Socratic philosophers.
