...Waraji with the side straps cut off and attached to a piece of cloth are called kirioh waraji and are worn at festivals. Straw sandals for cows and horses are called ushi-no-kutsu, uma-no-kutsu, or maguttsu and are milkless straw sandals consisting of a back strap, strap, and base. Folk customs related to straw sandals can be found all over the country.
