Born: June 19, 1896 in Pennsylvania [Died] April 24, 1986. The late Duchess of Windsor, Paris. She lost her father when she was five months old, and graduated from a private school under her uncle. In 1916, she married an American naval officer, but divorced in 1927. The following year, she remarried E. Simpson, a British shipping businessman. In 1930, she had a fateful encounter with Prince Edward of England, and eventually separated from her husband. Meanwhile, the Prince ascended to the throne as Edward VIII in January 1936, but in December of the same year, he abdicated the throne to his younger brother, George VI, and married Mrs. Simpson the following year in 1937. At the time, this was known as the "love of the century," and attracted worldwide attention. After that, although they kept their distance from the British royal family, the two lived a married life in France for 35 years until the Duke's death in 1972. After the Duchess's death, the royal family allowed her to be buried next to her husband's grave in Windsor Castle. He has also written an autobiography, The Heart Has Its Reasons (56).
