...A mystery writer born in the United States and later living in the UK. He also uses the pen names Carter Dickson and Carr Dickson. He is known as a master of locked-room murder tricks, but he also uses occult atmospheres and writes historical mystery novels, making full use of his ingenuity. He influenced the Japanese writers Edogawa Ranpo and Yokomizo Seishi. His representative work is The Hat Collector's Case (1933). His other works include The Life of Conan Doyle (1949).
