A school of haiku poetry from the early Edo period and its style. It is also called the old-fashioned or orthodox style, as opposed to the new and unconventional style of Danrin. "Teimon" refers to the school of haiku poetry of Matsunaga Teitoku. The term "Teimon" sometimes refers to the haiku poetry of Sokan and Moritake (Arakida Moritake) from the top of the haiku style, and also includes the 18th and 19th century schools of Teizan and Tenrai, but generally refers to the haiku group led by Teitoku and their style. For about 100 years, from the 16th century of Sokan and Moritake to the 17th century when the Teimon school emerged, there were two types of haiku poetry: lukewarm wordplay haiku, a hobby for intellectuals, as represented by Miura Tameharu's Inuomokage and Yakanshu, and Iizute haiku, which was not afraid of vulgarity and blatantness.
