A Buddhist group formed with the aim of reforming existing Buddhist sects and transforming capitalist society, and engaged in anti-fascist activities during the war. In 1919, Yoshiro Seno, who founded the Greater Japan Nichirenista Youth Association and launched a humanitarian social movement, organized the New Buddhist Youth League (Buddhist Youth League) from within the Youth Association with his comrades in April 1931. Amid the impoverishment of the masses during the depression and the growing social unrest caused by the start of the war of aggression, the Buddhist Youth League criticized the corruption of existing religious organizations, exerting a fresh influence on Buddhists across sects.
