The people of the time said, 'It is nectar .'" [Lunheng - Kozui]② (Translation of amṛta. Transliterated as amṛta. It is said that drinking it will eliminate suffering, make you live longer, and even revive the dead. 〘名〙① 天から与えられる甘い不老不死の霊薬。中国古来の伝説では、天子が仁政を行なうめでたい前兆として天から降るといわれている。※書紀（720）天武七年一〇月（北野本訓）「則ち風に随ひて松林と葦原とに飄(ひひ)る。時の人、曰はく、『甘露(カムロ)なり』といふ」〔論衡‐講瑞〕② (amṛta の訳語。阿蜜㗚多と音訳。不死、神酒などとも訳す) インドで天の神々が不死を得るための飲料をいう。これを飲むと苦悩を去り、長寿になり、死者をもよみがえらせるという。転じて、仏の教え、仏の悟りなどにたとえる。※栄花（1028‐92頃）もとのしづく「曼陀枳尼の殊勝の池に沐浴し、四種の甘露を嘗(な)め」※今昔（1120頃か）一「我、甘露(かんろ)の法門を開て彼(かの)阿羅邏仙を先づ度せむ」③ (形動) おいしいこと。また、そのさま。美味を表わす語。※新撰類聚往来（1492‐1521頃）上「於_二甘露(カンロ)之乳水醍醐之上味_一、難_レ及_二料棟(れうけん)_一候」④ 瓜の異称。※蔭凉軒日録‐文明一九年（1487）六月二八日「喫_二梵天_一啜_二甘露_一」⑤ 夏にカエデ、エノキ、カシなどの樹葉からしたたり落ちる甘味の液汁。その木につく虫、「ありまき」の体内から分泌されたもの。⑥ 煎茶(せんちゃ)の上等のもの。⑦ 「かんろしゅ（甘露酒）」の略。⑧ 「かんろすい（甘露水）①」の略。
