This work is written by Zhao Shizhen of the Ming Dynasty in China, and is in 5 volumes. It is famous as a technical book explaining the structure and use of firearms, and was completed around 1603 (Wanli 31). The Ming Dynasty was threatened by Japanese pirates in the middle of the 16th century, and the author became aware of the power of Japanese firearms in particular. The author devised a countermeasure against them, and stressed the importance of firearms as a new weapon. In addition to the Wanli edition, there is a Japanese print edition and a recently published edition in the Genran-do series, the latter of which has recently been facsimile published. 中国，明の趙士禎の著書で，5巻。鉄砲の構造や使用法を解説した技術書として有名で，1603年(万暦31)ころ成る。明は16世紀半ばごろ倭寇に脅かされ，とくに日本の鉄砲の威力を知った。著者はこれに対抗する策を考え，新兵器としての鉄砲の重要性を説いたのである。万暦刊本のほか，和刻本と近時出版された《玄覧堂叢書》本があり，後者は最近その影印本が出た。【谷口規矩雄】
