Enchogawa (English spelling) extended river

When the original seafloor depositional surface appears on land due to land uplift or sea level drop, the river continues to flow over it, extending its course to the new coastline. This extended section is called an extension river. Since the seafloor depositional surface is generally steep, an extension river immediately cuts the newly emerged surface. The original plain area often has a plateau-like topography. Extension rivers can be found on raised coastal plains such as the Miyazaki Plain and Kitami Basin, and flow by cutting the uplifted depositional surface.

地盤の隆起や海面の低下によって元の海底堆積(たいせき)面が陸上に現れると、川はこの上を引き続き流れて、新たな海岸線まで流路を延長する。この延長した部分を延長川という。一般に海底堆積面は急傾斜であるため延長川はただちにその新たに出現した面を刻む。元の平野部は台地状の地形をなすことが多い。宮崎平野や北見盆地などの隆起海岸平野上には延長川がみられ、隆起した堆積面を刻んで流れている。
