Sillabo - Shiragibo

Japanese: 新羅坊 - しらぎぼう

A settlement of Silla people in China during the Unified Silla period in Korea. After Silla achieved the unification of the three kingdoms, it not only sent tribute envoys frequently to Tang China from the 8th to 9th centuries, but also had many people who traveled to Tang China and immigrated there. The Silla villages where they lived together were located in Chuzhou, Xuzhou, Dengzhou, and other areas along the East China Sea coast, all of which were strategic locations on the waterways connecting mainland China and the Korean peninsula. The Silla village of Chishan in Mundeng County near Dengzhou is known in particular for the detailed records of the travelogue Nitto Guho Junrei Kouki (Record of a Pilgrimage to China in Search of the Law), in which the Japanese Tendai monk Ennin stayed on his journey to Tang China (839, 845).

朝鮮の統一新羅時代，中国にあった新羅人の居留地。三国統一を達成した新羅では，8世紀から9世紀にかけて唐にしきりに朝貢使節を派遣しただけでなく，唐に通交･移住する者が多かった。彼らが集団で居住した新羅坊は，東シナ海沿岸地方の楚州，徐州，登州などにあり，いずれも中国大陸と朝鮮半島とを結ぶ水路の要地にあたる。なかでも登州付近の文登県赤山村のものは，日本の天台僧，慈覚大師円仁が唐への旅の途上滞在し(839,845)，その旅行記《入唐求法（につとうぐほう）巡礼行記》の詳しい記録によって知られる。
