Silla pottery - Shiragi-doki

Japanese: 新羅土器 - しらぎどき

This type of pottery is a gray-blue, dark black hard pottery found in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. It is so named because it was found in large quantities in the high-mounded tombs of Silla. It was fired at a fairly high temperature, and its decoration and patterns show unique techniques. The vessel shapes include high-rise bowls, vases, and pedestals, and sueki ware excavated from Japanese tombs is thought to belong to this type.

朝鮮半島南部から出土する灰青色，里幼(よう)黒色系の硬陶。新羅の高塚式古墳から多量に出土するためこの名がある。かなり高火度で焼き締めたもので，装飾，文様に独特の手法が見える。器形には高坏(たかつき)，壺，器台などがあり，日本の古墳から出土する須恵器はこの系統に属すると思われる。
