A general term for land privately owned by feudal lords and landowners in the Middle Ages. Also called private territory. Primarily consisting of family land and fields, it extended to woodlands, pastures, beaches, bays, and other areas of the mountains, fields, rivers, and sea. The feudal lord directly managed some of the land as tsukuda, and had cultivators work on the rest, from which he collected land tax, kajishi, and other taxes. He had the right to dispose of it by transferring it, buying and selling it, and had inviolable rights. However, the land was also subject to the control of the kokuga (provincial offices) and honjo (provincial offices). →Kokuga/Kokufu→Related items First period|Eviction|Katsura River|Kanto public affairs|Kuratsuki Manor|Land survey|On and servitude|Shikada Manor|Tokuso|Fukuoka Manor|Bunchi Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
