Student - Shosei

Student - Shosei
〘noun〙① A person who is in the period of completing his/her studies. A student. Pupil. ※Fusoshu (c. 995-999), Volume 9, Kan'aku, Preface (Ki Zaichou), "Gao Feng Zibentou (abbreviated) A small number of students. A guest. ※Chono Shinbun - June 22, 1883 (Meiji 16) "Even the students living in his house are not able to find out where he is going." ※Jiji (1903)〈Toson Shimazaki〉 "There was a time when he was a student at my uncle's house in Tokyo in 1945." [Essay] In the mid-Meiji period, the word came to be used in the second way. This is probably related to the popularity of the word "gakusei" (student), which is listed as a translation of "student" along with " shosei " in the "Illustrated English-Japanese Dictionary with Sounds" ( 1873 ), such as "Student scholar, student ( sei), sho student, reader."

Sho-sho ‥Shau [scholar]
