Shu Plank Road (English name)

Japanese: 蜀桟道 - しょくさんどう（英語表記）Shǔ zhàn dào

A plank road is generally a wooden bridge built over steep mountain cliffs, and is also called a "bridge." In China, the road from Guanzhong to Shu where it crosses the Daba Mountains is called Shu Bridge, and is contrasted with Qin Bridge to the north. Shu Bridge runs from Mian County, Shaanxi Province to Jiange in Sichuan Province, and is a difficult place to travel between Chang'an and Chengdu. It is also called the Jinniu Road or the Shiniu Road. Jiange was built by Zhuge Liang, who carved stones into the sky on Dajianshan (Dajianshan) Mountain.

桟道とは一般に，山中の険しい崖などに木を組んでかけわたして作った道で，〈かけはし〉ともいう。中国では，関中から蜀への道が大巴山脈を越える所にあるのを蜀桟と呼び，北にある秦桟に対する。蜀桟は陝西省沔(勉)県（べんけん）より，四川省剣閣に至る道で，長安と成都を結ぶ交通上の難所にあたり，金牛道，石牛道とも呼ばれる。剣閣は大剣山(剣門山)に，諸葛亮（しよかつりよう）が石を鑿（うが）ち空に架して飛閣を作ったものである。
