The protagonist of the fairy tale "Joruri Monogatari." Her father was Minamoto Kanetaka, and her mother was a prostitute known as Yahagi no Choja. She was born in the late Heian period, when her parents prayed to the Yakushi at Horai-ji Temple in Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture). At the age of 14, she married Ushiwaka (Minamoto no Yoshitsune), and later brought him back to life after he died in Fukiage, Suruga (Shizuoka Prefecture).
