Pine forest - Shorin

Japanese:
Pine forest - Shorin

An industrial city in the northwest of North Hwanghae Province, North Korea. It is located on the left bank of the downstream Taedong River. It was originally a fishing village on the banks of the Taedong River, but because the river is wide and the water is deep, Japan used it as a landing point for railroad materials for the construction of the Gyeongui Line (Seoul - Sinuiju) during the Russo-Japanese War. Since then, it was renamed Kenjiho after the person in charge of landing, Watanabe Kenji. After that, the Mitsubishi-affiliated Kenjiho Steelworks was established, and iron ore from the Hwanghae Province area was concentrated there, with a blast furnace and one open hearth furnace in operation. It was reduced to ashes during the Korean War, but was later rebuilt as a representative metallurgical industrial base in North Korea. It produces pig iron, various steels, rolled steel materials, as well as benzine and ammonium sulfate. The factory grounds house a labor college for employees, a hospital, entertainment facilities, etc. In the city center, there is Matsubayashi Institute of Technology.
