A town in Inukami County, central Shiga Prefecture. Located at the tip of the alluvial fan of the Inukami River, the old Nakasendo road and National Route 8 run through the town from north to south, with most of the settlements concentrated along the old Nakasendo road. Most of the cultivated land is paddy fields, with rice cultivation being the main crop, and greenhouse horticulture is also practiced. 滋賀県中部,犬上(いぬかみ)郡の町。犬上川扇状地の扇端部に位置し,旧中山道と国道8号線がほぼ南北に町域を縦断,集落の多くは旧中山道沿いに集まる。耕地のほとんどが水田で,米作を主とし,施設園芸も行う。国道8号線,近江鉄道が通る。7.80km2。7566人(2010)。
