Japanese: 伊達締 - だてじめ

An accessory for women's Japanese clothing. It is about 10cm wide and 2.2m long, and comes in single-layer and cored bag-shaped varieties. It is used to arrange the chest area of a long juban and to finish off the ends of a long kimono; it is wrapped twice and the ends are tucked in. Made of pure silk, Hakata-ori has a tightly woven center, making it easy to use and not bulky. Datemaki is about twice as long and is wrapped around the body to correct the figure, and is used for dressing in bridal attire. Men's datejime is about 5cm wide and used for nightwear. 女性の和装用小物。幅約10cm，長さ約2.2mで，単（ひとえ）や芯入りの袋状のものなどがある。長じゅばんの胸元をととのえるためと長着のお端折（はしより）を始末するために用い，二巻きして端をはさみこむ。正絹で中央が堅く織られている博多織がかさばらずに使いよい。伊達巻は倍ほどの長さでぐるぐる巻きつけて体型の補整も兼ね，花嫁衣装の着付などに用いる。男物の伊達締は幅が5cmほどで，寝巻などに使う。【山下悦子】
