British novelist and politician. After serving as a London City Councilman, he became a Member of the House of Commons in 1969, but resigned due to a fraud case. His con game novel "The Million Dollars" (1976), which he wrote to repay his debts, became a bestseller. Other success stories include the assassination novel "Shall I Tell the President?" (1977), "Cain and Abel" (1979), and "No. 10 Downing Street" (1984). In 1985, he was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the Conservative Party, but resigned the following year due to a womanizing scandal.

British theatre critic. Born in Scotland. Started as a journalist and wrote theatre reviews in London. Translated and introduced Ibsen and championed GB Shaw, among other things, promoting the movement to establish modern British theatre. Also contributed to the Irish national theatre movement.
