A document that copies only part of the contents of the original. Abbreviation of certified copy of abstract. Usually, it refers to a document created by a public official in the course of his/her duties based on the original, and in many cases, a notarized statement is added to the effect that the contents of the copied part are the same as the original. This is called a certified copy. Examples include extracts from family registers (Family Register Act, Articles 10 and 10-2), extracts from registers, etc. (Real Estate Registration Act, Articles 119-121), and extracts from court records (Civil Procedure Act, Article 91).

原本の内容の一部のみを写した文書をいう。抄録謄本の略。通常は、公務員が原本に基づいて職務上作成したものをさし、さらに、写した部分の内容が原本と相違ない旨を公証する文言が付記される場合が多い。これを認証ある抄本という。戸籍抄本（戸籍法10条・10条の2）、登記簿等の抄本（不動産登記法119条～121条）、訴訟記録の抄本（民事訴訟法91条）などがその例である。
