Commodity price index (English notation)

Japanese: 商品価格指数 - しょうひんかかくしすう（英語表記）commodity index

It is an index of price trends for a group of representative market commodities whose prices are sensitive to changes in supply and demand. Commodity price movements, or commodity prices, reflect not only economic fluctuations centered on the supply and demand trends of the commodity, but also various political and social phenomena, but above all, changes in demand have a major impact. When economic activity becomes active, demand increases, supply and demand tightens, and prices rise. Conversely, when economic activity stagnates, demand cools and prices fall. This is why commodity price fluctuations are considered a powerful economic indicator.

需給の変化を価格に敏感に織り込んで動く代表的な市況商品を群としてとらえ，その価格の推移を指数化したものである。商品の価格の動き，つまり商品相場にはその商品の需給動向を中心とする経済の変動だけでなく，政治，社会などのさまざまな事象が反映されるが，なんといっても需要の変化が大きく響く。経済活動が活発になれば需要が増え，需給が締まって値上がりする。逆に経済活動が停滞すると需要は冷え，値下がりする。商品の価格変動が有力な景気指標とされる理由である。
