A Tibetan-style temple unique to Lamaism. As Lamaism spread from Tibet (Xizang Autonomous Region of China) to Mongolia, Northeast China (formerly Manchuria), and inland China, the architecture changed locally. The scale of the temples varies from large to small, with the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the Tibetan headquarters, and Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse at the top, but academic temples are generally larger and consist of a main hall, a school, monks' quarters, and a living Buddha storehouse, which collectively refers to the residence of the living Buddha, its assets, and the administrative office for events. Famous mausoleums include Ganden Monastery in Ulaanbaatar (Kulun), Mongolia, the two temples of Yizong and Shan'in in Duolun, the two great temples in Jehol, and the Yonghe Temple in Beijing.
