Childhood Cancer - Childhood Cancer

So-called childhood cancer refers to pediatric malignant neoplasms. In other words, if we take it to mean cancer that is pathologically seen in children, it refers to a small number of diseases such as primary liver cancer, and does not include sarcomas, which are more common in children than cancer. If we take cancer to mean malignant tumors, it includes carcinomas and sarcomas, but does not include leukemia, which is common in children. However, in practice it is often used to mean all of these. If this is the case, it is synonymous with the statistical term malignant neoplasm.

いわゆる小児癌とは小児悪性新生物をいう。すなわち、病理学的に小児にみられる癌の意味にとれば、原発性肝癌など少数の疾患をさすことになり、小児では癌よりも多い肉腫(にくしゅ)が含まれない。癌を悪性腫瘍(しゅよう)の意味にとっても、癌と肉腫は含まれるが、小児に多い白血病は含まれないことになる。しかし、実際にはこれらをすべて含む意味で使われる場合が多い。とすれば、これは統計用語である悪性新生物と同義ということになる。
