International liquidity

Japanese: 国際流動性 - こくさいりゅうどうせい（英語表記）international liquidity

It is the ratio of reserves to the total volume of trade or external payments in the world. Financial liquidity refers to financial assets that can be used to settle transactions, with the most liquid asset being money. International liquidity therefore refers to financial assets that can be used for international settlements, but in a broader sense it also includes means of settlement for private trade transactions, and private short-term funds such as trade credits. In a narrower sense, it means settling an international balance of payments deficit, and is often used to refer to the external payment reserves (→ foreign exchange reserves) held by monetary authorities.

世界全体の貿易額または対外支払額に対する支払準備の比率をいう。金融の流動性とは，取引の決済に用いることのできる金融資産をさし，最も流動性の高い資産は貨幣である。したがって国際流動性とは，国際間の決済に用いることのできる金融資産をさすことになるが，広義には民間の貿易取引などのための決済手段をも含むものであり，貿易信用のような民間短期資金もこれに入る。狭義には，国際収支赤字の決済という意味であり，通貨当局が保有する対外支払準備 (→外貨準備 ) をさして用いられることが多い。
