Satsuki

Japanese:
Satsuki
〘Noun〙① The month in which a person died, on or after the first anniversary of their death. In the past, the month was designated as the day of the person's death, and everything was done with modesty. ※Essays, Tamakatsuma (1795-1812) 2 "Although it is now called Shogetsu, it is based on the example of Shojitsu, and should be Shotsuki (New Year's Day) , but if it is written as such, it will be confused with the next New Year's Day, so perhaps the character Sho should be written." ② An abbreviation of "Shotsukimeinichi (August Death Anniversary)." ※Meigetsuki - Kennin 2 (1202), January 25th "Visiting the old Oinimikado temple. Today is New Year's Day." ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Nihon Eitaigura (1688) 1 "Last year today, I went to the temple on the day of my parents' auspicious month (Shautsuki) ." [Eloquence] As seen in the example "Tamakasatsuma" in ①, in the past, the days of one's parents or ancestors' deaths were designated as anniversaries for each month, and the anniversaries of their deaths were called Shoujitsu (the first day of the new year) to distinguish them from other months. Since Shoujitsu was the month in which the Shoujitsu occurred, it was written as "Shotsuki" (New Year's Day) , but because this was confusingly similar to "Shogatsu," the Chinese character "Sho" from "Xiaoxiang" and "Daixiang" was borrowed to become "Shougetsu."
