Xiǎn Xing hǎi (English: Sea of Xingxing)

Japanese: 冼星海 - しょうせいかい（英語表記）Xiǎn Xīng hǎi

1905‐45
Chinese composer. Born in Panyu County, Guangdong Province. He grew up through hardships, such as graduating from elementary school in Singapore while struggling to get through school. In 1929, he went to Paris to study composition at the Paris Conservatoire. After returning to China in 1935, he released many anti-Japanese songs that became popular throughout the country. In 1938, he went to Yan'an as a professor at the Lu Xun Art Academy, and composed large-scale choral pieces that inspired the souls of the nation, such as the Yellow River Chorus. In 1940, he went to the Soviet Union for an inspection tour, but was unable to return home due to war, and in 1945, he fell ill and died in Moscow. [Yoshida Tomio]
