Chattering lory (scarlet parakeet)
A bird of the Psittacidae family, this medium-sized parrot is about 30 cm long and has a short tail. Its beak, upper and undersides are red, and its wings, thighs and tail tip are green. Its wings have red markings, and a small triangular yellow spot between its shoulders. Its wing corners are also yellow. It lives in pairs or small groups on the trees in forests, where it crushes flowers with its beak and licks up the nectar that seeps out with its brush-tipped tongue. It also eats soft fruit that is rich in pollen and juice. During the breeding season, it uses tree holes as nests and lays 2 to 4 eggs directly into them.
