Jyojou - Jyojou

A prefecture-level city along the upper reaches of the Xinjiang River in northeastern Jiangxi Province, China. It governs two city districts including Guangfeng and nine counties including Poyang, and acts as the deputy governor for Dexing City (as of 2016). Population 6,358,360 (2010). Since Wu established Shangrao County during the Three Kingdoms period, a county of the same name has existed except for a short period. In 1949, the city was separated from the county to form Shangrao City. Since ancient times, it has been a key location for water transportation connecting Jiangxi Province and Zhejiang Province, and even today, it is a hub of goods distribution and transportation in northeastern Jiangxi Province along the Shanghai-Kunming Line (Shanghai). Industries include automobile repair and assembly, electronic equipment, chemical fertilizers, and agricultural machinery. The site of the military camp at Maojialing, located on the southern outskirts of the city, is one of the revolutionary historical sites.

中国、江西(こうせい)省北東部の信江(しんこう)上流に沿う地級市。広豊(こうほう)など2市轄区、鄱陽(はよう)など9県を管轄し、徳興(とくこう)市の管轄代行を行う（2016年時点）。人口635万8360（2010）。三国時代に呉(ご)が上饒県を設けて以来、同名の県が一時期を除いて存続してきた。1949年、同県から市街地を分離して上饒市が設置された。古来、江西省と浙江(せっこう)省を結ぶ水運上の要地で、現在も、滬昆(ここん)線（上海(シャンハイ)―昆明(こんめい)）に沿い、江西省北東部の物資集散と交通の中心地である。自動車修理組立て、電子機器、化学肥料、農業機械などの工業がある。市の南郊にある茅家嶺(ぼうかれい)の集中営跡は革命史跡の一つとなっている。
