...The island is roughly triangular in shape, with the south and northeast coasts being roughly straight, and Oura Bay, Harimizu Bay, and Yonaha Bay inleting the west coast. At the northern end is the Karimata Peninsula, with Nishi-Henna Cape and Setozaki protruding out, and at the eastern end is Henanazaki, with Nishihamazaki protruding into Yonaha Bay in the west. The island is a plateau-like topography made of Quaternary Ryukyu limestone, with several limestone banks running from the northwest to the southeast at intervals of about 2 km.
