Small group activities

Japanese: 小集団活動 - しょうしゅうだんかつどう

It is one of the methods of participation in management in companies, where employees are made to form small groups of about 10 people or less, and through their independent joint activities, they aim to increase work motivation and effectively achieve the company's objectives. Originally, small groups are defined as a small number of members who communicate reliably through face-to-face contact and deepen mutual acceptance through continuous activities with a shared goal. The reasons for the growing interest in small group activities within companies are that, based on the nature of these small groups, (1) they can fully utilize team efficiency, leading to improved productivity and management efficiency, (2) employees' opinions and ideas are reflected in management, creating a sense of job satisfaction, and (3) small groups allow employees to reflect on themselves and promote mutual enlightenment, making them activities that integrate the needs of the organization and the needs of the individual.

企業における経営参加の方法の一つで，おおむね10人以下の小集団を従業員に構成させるようにし，その自主的な共同活動を通じて労働意欲を高め，企業の目的を有効に達成しようとするものである。本来，小集団small groupとは，少人数のメンバーで対面接触による確かなコミュニケーションを重ね，目標を共有する継続的な活動を通じ，相互受容関係を深めていくものであると定義されるが，企業のなかで小集団活動が関心を高めている理由としては，このような小集団の性質にもとづき，(1)チーム効率を十分に発揮して生産性向上，経営の効率化に結びつけることができる，(2)従業員の意見や考え方が経営に反映され，働きがいを生みだすことができる，(3)小集団のなかで自己をふりかえり，相互啓発を促進することができる，などがあげられ，組織のニーズと個のニーズを統合する活動となっている。
