Uneme

Japanese: 采女 - うねめ
Uneme
[1] [noun] ("une" may be related to "unaku", meaning to wear a scarf around the neck) A female court attendant in the imperial harem, who was engaged in the daily chores of the emperor and empress. In the pre-Taika period, local powerful clans such as kuni no miyatsuko (provincial governor) and agatanushi (provincial governors) had their children serve the emperor, and under the ritsuryo system, the children of the gunji clans in each province who were beautiful and between the ages of 13 and 30 were selected to serve under the jurisdiction of the Kunaisho no Tsukasa of the Imperial Household Ministry, and were placed in the positions of Mizu no Tsukasa and Zen no Tsukasa of the imperial harem. Originally, their role was to serve the emperor exclusively, and in principle, it was a lifelong position. In the Nara period, the unit of payment for the tribute of the samurai was a district, just like the Hyoe, so in principle they were called by the district name, such as "Muro samurai." After the Heian period, the system changed, with provinces becoming the units of tribute, but it continued nominally until the Edo period. Unebe. → The court lady's office. *Ryo Gikai (718), an official of the imperial harem, " Two court ladies who pay tribute are one . Sisters and women of the rank of county junior lord or higher." *Kokin (905-914), kana preface, "The words of Asakayama are read from Uneme no Tababure." [2] Noh play. The third piece. Various schools. Written by Zeami. From "Yamato Monogatari." The ghost of a court lady who once threw herself into Sarusawa Pond tells the story to a traveling monk and asks for a memorial service for her death.
