Beaucaire (English spelling)

Japanese: ボーケール(英語表記)Beaucaire
Beaucaire (English spelling)
Ugernum is a town on the eastern edge of the Gard department in southern France. It is located on the right bank of the Rhône River, about 25 km east of Nîmes, and is connected to Tarascon on the left bank by a bridge, forming a settlement on both sides of the river. The Beaucaire Canal on the Rhône River leads to Aiguemortes on the Mediterranean coast. Due to its favorable geographical location, it was once considered economically important, and the trade fairs that have been held here since the 13th century are known abroad. Today, although on a smaller scale, a market is held every July, mainly selling leather goods. The tower of the 13th-century Château de Montmorency is famous. Other important buildings include St. Paul's Cathedral (15th century) and the town hall (17th century), designed by Mansart. Population 13,600 (1990).
