Okhlopkov, Nikolai Pavlovich

Born: May 15, 1900, Irkutsk
[Died] January 8, 1967. Moscow Soviet director. He studied directing under Meyerhold, and in 1932 became director at the Realistichesky Theatre in Moscow. Inspired by Eisenstein's theory of montage, he applied it to theatre and directed Shakespeare's and Greek plays. When the theatre closed in 1938, he moved to the Vakhtangov Theatre, and in 1943 became director at the Revolutionary Theatre. His representative works include The Young Guard (47), Hamlet (54), and Medea (61).

ソ連の演出家。メイエルホリドについて演出を学び，1932年モスクワのレアリスチーチェスキー劇場の演出家となる。エイゼンシュテインのモンタージュ理論に刺激され，これを演劇に適用してシェークスピア劇やギリシア劇を演出。同劇場の閉鎖 (1938) に伴いワフタンゴフ劇場に移り，43年革命劇場の演出家となった。代表的作品『若き親衛隊』 (47) ，『ハムレット』 (54) ，『メデイア』 (61) 。
