[Died] 1867.11.6/13. Suo, Mitajiri. A female poet of the late Edo period. Also read as "motoni". Secular name: Moto. The third daughter of Urano Katsutsune, a samurai of the Kuroda clan. She became the second wife of Nomura Sadanori, and in 1832, together with her husband, she became a disciple of Okuma Gendo. In 1859, after her husband died, she became a nun. She was involved with Takasugi Shinsaku, Saigo Takamori, and other loyalists to the emperor. In 1865, she was captured and exiled to Himeshima in the Genkai region, but was rescued two years later and died shortly thereafter. Her style of poetry was refreshing. Her family collection includes her own "Kouryoshu," as well as "Jyokyo Nikki," "Himeshima Nikki," "Boshu Nikki," and "Yume Kazoe."

江戸時代後期の女流歌人。「もとに」とも読む。俗名,もと。黒田藩士浦野勝常の3女。野村貞貫の後妻となり天保3 (1832) 年大隈言道に夫とともに入門。安政6 (59) 年夫と死別後に出家。高杉晋作,西郷隆盛ら勤王の志士と交わり,慶応1 (65) 年に捕われて玄海の姫島に流されたが,2年後に救出され,まもなく没した。歌風は清新。家集に自撰の『向陵 (こうりょう) 集』があり,『上京日記』『姫島日記』『防州日記』『夢かぞへ』などの著がある。
