A Chinese scholar of the Ming Dynasty. Born in Jiangning (Jiangsu Province). His courtesy name was Wei Hou and his title was Dan Yuan. In 1589 (the 17th year of the Wanli era), he passed the first Imperial Palace Examination and was awarded the position of editor of the Hanlin Academy, and subsequently became a lecturer to the eldest son of the emperor (later Emperor Taichang). In 1597, he was impeached and demoted to Tongzhi of Funing Prefecture, and soon after resigned from his position. An unrivaled polymath and book collector, he wrote many books, including Records of the Dedications of the State and the Records of the State and Records of the Classics of the State. Furthermore, as a scholar of the left sect of Yangmingism (Taizhou school), he worked hard to protect his close friend Li Zhi (Zhuowu). Left sect of Wangism [Tani Mitsutaka]

中国，明の学者。江寧(江蘇省)の人。字は弱侯，号は澹園。1589年(万暦17)殿試第一をもって翰林院修撰を授けられ，ついで皇長子(のちの泰昌帝)の講官となる。97年弾劾をうけて福寧州同知に左遷され，のちまもなく官を辞した。無類の博学家，蔵書家で，《国朝献徴録》《国史経籍志》など多数の著書がある。また，陽明学左派(泰州派)の学者として親友李贄（りし）(卓吾)の庇護に努めた。王学左派【谷光隆】
