〘Noun〙 (also "Shogo") 1. A hammer and drum used for signals in battle. ※Shoku Nihongi - First year of the Reiki era (715), January Koshin " Two rows of cavalry with drums . It is the day of the New Year's meeting. Two gongs are used, and this is the beginning." [Han Shu - Toho Sakuden] 2. One of the percussion instruments used in gagaku . It is a dish-shaped instrument made of bronze or brass, hung from a hanging frame and struck with two sticks . There are three types: the o-shogo for outdoor dance music, the tsurishōgo for orchestral and indoor dance music, and the ninai- shogo for marching ( hobby music) . Usually it refers to the tsuri-shogo, the diameter of the drum face is about 15 centimeters. [Wamyosho, Ten Volumes (around 934)] *Ryōjinhisō (around 1179) 2 "When rice grains are polished , they start to beat , and crickets are very skilled at striking bells ." ③ A circular bronze hammer used by Buddhists during religious services. It is hung on a stand or around the neck, or placed on a pedestal. *Konjaku (around 1120) 12 "Two large drums and two bells are set up to the south of it."

〘名〙 (「しょうご」とも)① いくさで、合図などに用いるたたきがねと太鼓。※続日本紀‐霊亀元年(715)正月甲申「陣列鼓吹騎兵。元会之日。用鉦鼓是始矣」 〔漢書‐東方朔伝〕② 雅楽に使う打楽器の一つ。青銅または黄銅製の皿形のもので、釣枠(つりわく)につるし二本の桴(ばち)で打つ。野外舞楽用の大鉦鼓(おおしょうご)、管弦の演奏・屋内舞楽用の釣鉦鼓(つりしょうご)、行進(道楽(みちがく))用の荷鉦鼓(にないしょうご)の三種がある。通常、釣鉦鼓をさし、鼓面直径約一五センチメートル。〔十巻本和名抄(934頃)〕※梁塵秘抄(1179頃)二「稲子磨(いなごまろ)(め)で拍子(ほうし)付く、さて蟋蟀は、鉦この鉦このよき上手」③ 仏家で、勤行のときなどに打ちならす円形青銅製のたたきがね。台や首につるしたり、台座に乗せたりして用いる。※今昔(1120頃か)一二「其の南に大皷・鉦皷各二を㽵(かざ)り立て」
