An irregularly shaped cavity in a rock, the walls of which are surrounded by a mineral shell. It is found in steam vents and veins in lava. When the mineral that makes up the wall of the cavity is the same as that of the surrounding rock, it is called a druse, and when the mineral that makes up the shell is different from that of the surrounding rock, it is called a geode [Phillips: 1816].
