Superconducting materials are also written as superconducting materials. They are materials that can cause the so-called superconducting phenomenon (superconductivity), where the electrical resistance becomes zero below a certain temperature. Examples include alloys such as niobium-titanium (Nb-Ti) and compounds such as niobium and tin (Nb ₃ Sn). Practical features of superconducting materials include 1. the ability to pass large currents without loss, 2. the ability to generate strong magnetic fields, and 3. the ability to generate persistent currents, which has opened up applications in MHD power generation, linear motor cars, power storage, and more. Another electronic element that utilizes the superconducting phenomenon is the Josephson element (Josephson effect). In the past, cryogenic equipment was required to maintain superconductivity, and the cost of this was a drawback, but recently, ceramic materials that exhibit superconductivity at around liquid nitrogen temperature have attracted attention.

超伝導材料とも書く。ある温度以下で電気抵抗が０となる，いわゆる超伝導現象（超伝導）を起こしうる材料。ニオブ・チタン（Nb-Ti）などの合金やニオブとスズ（Nb₃Sn）などの化合物がある。超伝導材料の実用的な特徴として，1.損失なく大電流が流せる，2.強い磁場を発生させうる，3.永久電流が可能などがあげられ，そのためMHD発電，リニアモーターカー，電力貯蔵などへの用途が開けた。また，超伝導現象を利用したエレクトロニクス素子としてはジョセフソン素子（ジョセフソン効果）がある。従来，超伝導性を保つには極低温の設備が必要であり，そのコストが難点であったが，最近，液体窒素温度程度で超伝導性を示すセラミックス材料の存在が注目を浴びている。
