One of the Song Dynasty military systems: Emperor Taizu reorganized the military of the military governors and transferred the best soldiers to the central imperial army, so the elderly, injured, and other weak soldiers were organized into the Xiang army. They did not participate in battles, but were used for construction and maintenance, land and sea transportation, etc. Due to the decline in the quality of the Xiang army, measures were taken to strengthen the local militia.
