...Sex differences exist in the pelvis as a whole and in the individual bones that make up the pelvis, but the most notable are: (1) the sacrum is wider and shorter in women and is set back along with the coccyx; (2) the ilium is wider and more open to the left and right in women; (3) the angle between the left and right pubic bones below the pubic symphysis is larger and more arch-shaped in women; and (4) the pelvic cavity is wider in women, with a larger opening in particular (Figure 1).

It occupies the main part of the pelvis and is the largest flat bone in the human body. The hip bone means a wide bone. It forms the lower limb girdle and is located between the sacrum and the free lower limbs.
