Situation semantics is a philosophical proposal that was proposed in the 1970s and 1980s to solve various problems in the field of natural language semantics, while taking into account the concepts of information and action, and to construct a mathematically rigorously founded theory. Today, this proposal is accepted in some form by all researchers who seriously consider the semantics of natural language and attitude attribution. However, the formal expression that situation semantics took when it was proposed in the 1980s has almost completely disappeared due to subsequent mathematical and information-theoretic scrutiny.

状況意味論は，1970年代から80年代にかけて，自然言語の意味論の分野におけるさまざまな問題を解決しながら，情報と行為という概念を視野におさめて，かつ数学的に厳密な基礎づけをもつ理論を構成しようとした哲学的提案である。現在では，この提案は自然言語と心的態度帰属の意味論を真剣に考えようとするすべての研究者によってなんらかの形で承認されている。しかし，80年代に提案されたときに状況意味論がとっていた形式的表現は，そののちの数学的，情報論的吟味によってほとんど姿をとどめなくなっている。
